How to Measure Your Window for Perfect Fitting Window Shades

How to measure for an inside mount shade

An inside mount shade will sit inside your window casing. You’ll need a minimum two inch (2") depth to mount your shade.

You’ll take your first measurement at the top front of your window opening, and a second measurement at the top backside of the opening. You’ll repeat that process in several spots, moving down the length of your window, and take the smallest width measurement. We will automatically deduct one quarter inch from the width to ensure that your shade fits.

For the length, you’ll measure the height of your window. Once you receive your shade there will be stop adjustments you can set so that your shade falls at the perfect top and bottom stop limit that you desire.

How to measure for an outside mount shade

To measure the width of an outside mount shade, determine how far beyond your window and the casing that you want your shade to extend.

For example, if your shade is to extend one half inch beyond the casing on each side, your width measurement for that shade would be the distance from the outside of the trim on both sides, plus one inch.

For the length, you'll measure the height of your window. Once your shade is installed, you will be able to manually set upper and lower stop limits for the shade.
